Sovereign Tower How to Recruit Ari

Ari of the Isle of Basalt is the forgotten younger brother who sells griffins and never resigns. Wild Wits tucks him inside the Rorik versus Gotfrig succession audience. Speak with the local merchant guilds, let them refuse you, and listen when they leak the brother’s name. Then hire Ari from the Map Room for 25 funds. Curve Games’ August 2026 launch build still matches that August 12 community path.

Act 3 spoilers for Basalt succession. Read Act 3 Walkthrough before you spend the tenth chair on a scout you could have bought earlier in the act.

What Ari offers

Community sheets put Ari near Strength 5 / Agility 13 / Charisma 8 / Magic 3 / Wits 8 / Luck 6, armor 6, level 8. Resignation: never — he and Alwena are the two names mid-August lists treat as unable to quit.

• Griffin Rider — cannot change mount. Starting mount Columbus.
• Scout — bonus on Relic Recovery, Scouting, Climbing, Woods, and Track.
• Speedster (hidden) — score bonus from reduced quest duration.
• Annoying (hidden) — Diplomacy penalty, even though a hidden like also lists Diplomacy. He wants the work and still irritates the room.
• Likes Scouting and Relic Recovery; dislikes Hunt.
• Favourite meals — Brizhian Butter Shortbread and Crêpe (Cooking).
• Ending slide is listed as fixed — main ending and romance do not rewrite him.

He is the Act 3 answer to “who finishes the three-cycle scout before the emergency timer.” Speedster plus Agility 13 is why people spend the 25 funds.

Step-by-step recruitment

1. Trigger the Basalt Isles first audience about the succession dispute between Rorik and Gotfrig.
2. Choose We’ll speak with the local merchant guilds. Do not immediately crown one brother if you still want the leak.
3. The guilds refuse to help, then slip: they could ask Ari, their little brother — invite him, he has griffins for sale.
4. Recruit him from the Map Room for 25 funds (Map Room Hiring).
5. Leave a free Act 3 seat. You cannot dismiss Victoria or Edith to make room later.

Some roster notes mention suggesting the brothers rule together, after which Gotfrig offers the forgotten brother. If your build shows that fork instead of the guild line, take it — both reports end on a 25-fund Ari hire. Prefer the live dialogue over a remembered screenshot.

Using Ari after he joins

Scouting, Relic Recovery, Climbing, Woods, Track are his honest work. Hunt is the dislike — do not send the griffin salesman to kill the thing his mount might be related to.

He cannot change Columbus. Annex stables still matter for everyone else (Annexes), but Ari arrives already mounted.

Because he never resigns, you can treat affinity as a score tool rather than a panic meter. Still feed Shortbread or Crêpe before a Speedster card so the +0.5 crumb lands (Quest Scoring).

Ari versus other late scouts

• Ligia is the coastal Act 2 lamp hire — Get Ligia.
• Edith is Avalon magic, not a griffin scout — Get Edith.
• Alwena never resigns either but cannot take long quests — Get Alwena.

If your table already has Ligia and Alwena, Ari is luxury Agility. If you missed Ligia’s lamp, Ari is the Act 3 patch.

Common failures

• Crowning a brother immediately and never talking to the guilds.
• Hearing Ari’s name and forgetting the Map Room before the next emergency drains 25 funds.
• No free seat after Victoria’s trials.
• Sending Ari on Hunt week because Agility 13 looks like a killer.
