Sovereign Tower Reform Gwendan — Debt, Affinity, True Noble Soul

Gwendan of Villador is the Cycle 3 Wit-and-Charisma hire who looks like a diplomat and behaves like a frightened heir. Wild Wits hid his best kit behind an affinity story, not a boss fight. Curve Games launched Sovereign Tower on August 6, 2026. Community launch sheets now separate three outcomes that players still mix up: Reformed, Repaid, and a Magic gain. Who he is before the rewrite

Community statlines put unreformed Gwendan at 5 Strength / 4 Agility / 8 Charisma / 2 Magic / 3 Wits / 1 Luck, level 1, 6 armour. That Charisma is real. The rest is thin, and Fear of the Dark (hidden) is −1 on Cave and At Night cards until you strip it.

He likes Wise tone and secretly Competition. He dislikes Relic Recovery and secretly Assassination. Favourite meals: Crêpe and Croque-Monsieur — about +1.5 affinity and +0.5 quest score (Cooking). Patch 1.0.8 softened the weak-stat penalty, so that 8 Charisma finally carries more of a card.

Sovereign Tower — collecting knights and reading their quirks

Affinity first — do not skip meals

Affinity runs −10 to +10 and starts at 0. At −7 almost every knight queues resignation. Only Alwena and Ari are treated as never-leaving. Gwendan’s story is the affinity track.

What raises it: favourite meal, liked type or condition (~+1.33), Wise audience answers, asking his opinion in free time.

What lowers it: Relic Recovery, hidden Assassination, Audacious sovereign tone, shutting him down in dialogue.

If he is near quitting, serve Croque-Monsieur or Crêpe two cycles running. That is about +3, enough to pull most knights off the resignation line. Then queue a Competition or Nobles-flavoured card and stop sending him on relic hunts.

Alwena can surface Fear of the Dark as an Intendant rumour — scan him early (Intendant).

Reformed versus Repaid

They are not the same button.

Reformed (target this):

• +2 Strength, +1 Wits, +1 Charisma → about 7 / 4 / 9 / 2 / 4 / 1
• Removes Noble Soul, Arrogant, Fear of the Dark, and In Debt
• Adds True Noble Soul — score now reads every satisfaction category, not only Nobility
• Turns off his three bad special quest outcomes (including the Stolen Tiara failure that other knights can clear)

Repaid only clears In Debt. He keeps the ego, Arrogant, and the cave fear. A separate story path grants +8 Magic (2 → 10). You can chase Magic without Reformed, but you should not call that “fixed.”

Step-by-step Reformed route

1. Recruit him on Cycle 3 (standard candidacy). Keep a seat under the Act 1 six-chair cap.
2. Cook Crêpe or Croque-Monsieur the same week. Do not waste gold on Lion’s Taco.
3. Send him on Competition, Nobles-leaning, or short Wit cards. Avoid Cave, At Night, Relic Recovery, and Assassination.
4. Use free-time talks. Community notes flag an affinity-3 fork (humble versus pretentious) and later talks at affinity 5 and 8 after Reformed unlocks.
5. When the debt collector audience appears, let Gwendan leave the Round Table to pay. Do not pay it yourself if you want the full rewrite. Do not refuse and keep him seated out of pity.
6. After he returns Reformed, repair armour and re-read Quest Matcher — True Noble Soul changes which faction cards he actually wants.

Nine quests carry Gwendan-specific Unexpected Outcomes. Reforming him switches off the three negative ones. The Stolen Tiara is the famous trap: a normal send can yield Nobles standing; Gwendan unreformed can fail it outright.

Keep him alive long enough to finish

Patch 1.0.8 (11 August 2026) fixed an era when Gwendan could not die and Gwendolen mourned twice. He now dies like anyone else when armour hits zero. He starts on 6 armour. Carina repairs one knight per cycle. Repair him after the first scratch. Keep unreformed Gwendan off Cave and At Night. The Demon still exists if a Critical Failure deletes the week — Time Rewind.

Do not start the debt audience on the same morning as Grest pirates or another red-border emergency. He cannot pay a collector while he is at sea.

After he is Reformed

True Noble Soul makes him a kingdom piece, not a Nobles pet. He can finally sit Diplomacy without Arrogant eating the card — Seductive remains the hidden plus. He is still not your cave scout. Feed him before Act 2 murder week so affinity is not the lowest on the table (Stop the Act 2 Murder). Romance slides list Gwendan as a goodbye that changes with your Act 3 close — Romance and Endings.

Common failures

• Paying the debt yourself — you get Repaid flavour, not Reformed.
• Audacious spam — he loses affinity while you chase Marriage.
• Relic Recovery homework — every send is a quiet −0.75.
• Ignoring armour — 1.0.8 made death real.
• Full table when he leaves to pay — he needs a chair to return. Plan seats (Map Room Hiring).
