Sovereign Tower Map Room Hiring and Fallback Recruits

When story knights fail to appear, the Map Room sells seats — at a price

Map Room Hiring Guide

Not every knight in Sovereign Tower arrives through a scripted oath scene. Wild Wits also lets you hire from the Map Room when a story recruit fails to trigger or when you need a stat niche before a deadline. Curve Games’ solo Round Table RPG launched August 6, 2026 on Steam; launch-week guides consistently report 25 funds per Map Room hire, with occasional 10-fund early exceptions such as Goberto on some routes.

This page explains when Map Room hiring makes sense, how it interacts with Act seat caps (6 / 8 / 10 knights), and why you cannot dismiss anyone once invited. Pair it with Recruit Knights, How to Get Alwena, Round Table, and 20 Tips.

What the Map Room is

The Map Room is a tower wing where you view the kingdom map and — critically — purchase knights who did not join through narrative beats. Think of it as a treasury-funded safety valve, not a replacement for story recruitment. Community notes and launch guides treat Map Room hires as fallbacks when:

  • A standard recruit’s intro scene never fired because you skipped exploration or faction gates.
  • You need a Strength, Wit, or Charisma anchor before a red-border emergency.
  • You deliberately left a seat open for a secret knight but still need coverage this cycle.

Map Room knights are real roster members. They eat at the Kitchen, appear on the Round Table, and count toward your Act cap. There is no “mercenary dismiss” button.

Treasury pressure stacks fast: forge repairs (cheaper after Patch 1.0.8), Kitchen snacks, annex upgrades, and audience payouts all compete with Map Room buys. Hold a buffer before you hire — see Tip 2 on 20 Tips.

Seat caps and why slots matter

Launch guides agree on hard caps by act:

  • Act 1: 6 knights maximum
  • Act 2: 8 knights maximum
  • Act 3: 10 knights maximum

You cannot dismiss invited knights. Map Room hiring therefore competes directly with:

  • Alwena volunteering when the tower is empty (Get Alwena)
  • Brunhilda, Chester, and other optional recruits
  • Completionist goals across 20+ names and New Game Plus rotations

If your Act 1 roster is five story knights plus one Map Room filler, you may block Alwena unless you planned a second reign.

When to hire vs when to wait

Hire from the Map Room when:

  1. Repeated quest failures trace to a missing stat line you cannot craft around this week.
  2. A story recruit’s intro is delayed by faction standing and a timed card is due (Grest Pirates).
  3. You rewound and lost a knight death route but still need a Wit or Magic body for Scholars / Mystics.

Wait for story recruitment when:

  1. You are chasing secret knights on the same Act 1 window (Secret Knights).
  2. The Intendant hinted at an imminent intro — spending 25 funds duplicates a free oath next cycle.
  3. You are one cycle from an annex trial that unlocks a named character (Annexes).

Map Room workflow (step by step)

  1. Morning audience — accept only petitions your current roster can resolve; avoid seeding cards you cannot assign.
  2. Tower exploration — visit the Map Room wing when a recruit fails to appear after known triggers (Recruit Knights checklist).
  3. Review roster gaps — open Knight Stats and the Quest Matcher on your worst failing card.
  4. Confirm seat cap — count invited knights; leave space if Alwena or a secret is pending.
  5. Pay and hire — select the Map Room candidate matching your gap; confirm treasury can absorb 25 funds and upcoming repairs.
  6. Evening Round Table — assign the new knight immediately if a deadline quest is active; feed a favourite meal for +0.5 score (Cooking).

Interaction with Alwena and secrets

Alwena requires an empty tower and a free seat — not merely an empty chair at dinner. Map Room hiring the day before her volunteer scene can permanently consume a slot you needed for information gathering.

Chester and Sparky routes live on dedicated walkthroughs (Goose Quest, Beast Hunt). Buying a Charisma knight from the Map Room does not unlock Chester; it only patches quest coverage.

Common mistakes

  • Filling Act 1 to six before attempting Alwena or Brunhilda chains.
  • Hiring duplicate niches — two Strength knights when Wit quests fail nightly.
  • Ignoring repair costs after 1.0.8 — cheaper forge does not mean free; broke treasuries cannot hire and re-arm.
  • Map Room as first resort — story recruits bring unique traits and special outcomes Map Room bodies lack (Quest Outcomes).

After you hire

  1. Update mental stat coverage and re-run failing quests.
  2. Check Knight Loyalty — hired knights still react to faction optics.
  3. Note the hire in your route notebook (Tip 17 on 20 Tips) if you plan Demon rewinds.
  4. Compare value against Tier List — not every Map Room body is equal long term.

The Map Room is Sovereign Tower admitting that knights are logistics. Use it deliberately — a rushed hire can cost more in blocked secrets than 25 funds ever saved.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How much does Map Room hiring cost in Sovereign Tower?

Launch-week guides report **25 funds** per hire, with occasional **10-fund** early exceptions such as Goberto on some routes. Always confirm your live treasury before paying.

Can I dismiss a Map Room knight?

No. Once invited, knights count toward Act caps (6/8/10) and cannot be removed. Plan seats before hiring — see [Recruit Knights](/guides/recruit-knights/).

Does Map Room hiring block Alwena?

It can. Alwena needs a free seat and an empty tower. Filling your Act 1 cap with Map Room bodies may prevent her volunteer scene — [Get Alwena](/guides/get-alwena/).

When should I use the Map Room instead of waiting?

When repeated quest failures trace to a missing stat, a story intro is faction-gated past a deadline, or a rewind left you without a required niche. Otherwise prefer story recruits.
