Sovereign Tower Treasury, Gold and Economy Guide
Stay solvent without starving the People or starving your knights
Sovereign Tower treats gold as a soft score, not a hard currency. Wild Wits built the daily loop around six factions — Merchants, Mystics, Scholars, Nobles, People, and the Treasury itself — and the Treasury meter rewards you for holding gold while the People meter punishes you for hoarding it. Most first-run sovereigns crash financially not because they spend too much, but because they misunderstand which audience moves move Treasury versus People. This guide collects the economy rules that survive patches 1.0.8, 1.0.9, and 1.0.10 on Steam.
If you are brand new, read How to Play Sovereign Tower and Audience Chamber first. If you already understand the daily loop, jump to the Treasury tactics section below.
Why gold is a faction score, not a wallet
Treasury is the sixth faction lane in the wiki’s Factions Guide and the Faction Balance Tracker treats it as a meter you spend down or refill. Spending gold on infrastructure (annexes, training grounds, stables) lowers Treasury standing while raising another lane — most commonly People via quality-of-life or Nobles via visible towers. Hoarding gold tanks People because subjects see an empty treasury-funded promise and ignore new petitions.
The practical rule: always spend at least one upgrade per in-game week (5 cycles) so the Treasury meter oscillates around its baseline. Pure saving without spending softlocks the People questline by Act 2.
Daily gold income — what to expect
The audience opens each day with two to four gold-positive petitions: a merchant offer, a noble pledge, a scholar endowment, or a courier fee. Picking the gold option gives +8 to +18 Treasury, the loyalty or political option moves another lane instead. New players routinely lock themselves into the gold path for ten cycles and wonder why the People revolt.
Reference income per cycle:
| Cycle | Approx. treasury range | Pressure | Recommended spend |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–5 | 30–60 | Low | Save for one early annex |
| 6–10 | 50–90 | Mixed | Forge tier 1 OR alchemy tier 1 |
| 11–15 | 60–120 | High | Promote one knight, buy consumables |
| 16–20 | 80–160 | Spikes | Annex tier 2 + training grounds |
| 21–30 | 100–200 | Late | Romance + faction gifts |
| 31–45 | 150–250 | Climax | Golden Key prep, dragonheart unlocks |
These ranges assume the Best Opening Strategy and one rewind. Without both, expect ~30% lower across the board.
Spending priorities that protect Treasury
- Forge tier 1 by Cycle 4. Carina’s forge unlocks swords and armor that make Strength quests profitable. Cost: ~40 gold.
- Alchemy tier 1 by Cycle 6. The Witch’s potions are reusable on dialogue quests — high value per gold.
- Stables tier 1 by Cycle 8. Horses + travel items tip goose quest and travel modifier outcomes (see Goose Quest).
- Training grounds tier 1 by Cycle 10. Direct stat boosts compresses quest math for late Act 1.
- Intendancy tier 2 by Cycle 12. Lady Alwena’s daily scan becomes two scans, doubling your intel.
Full annex priority order is on Annexes and Crafting. The list above is the Treasury-preserving subset.
Audience choices that pay best
- Merchant offers — Accept for immediate +Treasury, reject for +Merchants. Accept one in three to keep both lanes happy.
- Scholar endowments — Accept for +Scholars, decline with a polite note for +Treasury. Decline often; Scholars hoard goodwill.
- Noble pledges — Accept for +Nobles, defer with a partial payout for split +Nobles / +People. Always defer once a cycle.
- Courier fees — Always accept. Courier fees are pure Treasury gains and no other lane drops.
- Petition with tribute — Decline. Tribute petitions look generous but cost Treasurymeter and rarely matter later.
If you only remember one rule: always take the courier fee, defer exactly one noble pledge per cycle, accept every merchant offer that mentions festivals, and ignore scholar endowments.
When Treasury drops below the danger line
Treasury turns critical around 30 gold with three pending emergency quests. Recovery options without a rewind:
- Sell consumables to the merchant guild — potions without a dialogue quest lose 60% of their value but stabilize the meter.
- Trigger a Grest Pirate emergency — yes, the Grest Pirates quest rewards Treasury handsomely when you clear the harbour. Patch 1.0.8 added a +1 cycle grace window.
- Take a noble pledge directly instead of deferring — sacrifices Nobles but Treasury recovers ~12 gold in one cycle.
- Skip promotion this cycle — promotions cost ~25 gold; waiting one cycle does not lock any content.
If the meter still bottoms out at 10 gold, that is your cue to Demon rewind rather than burn cycles recovering.
Multipliers and bonuses
Two systems quietly multiply Treasury income:
- Intendant secret: every third Intendant scan reveals a hidden merchant contact that adds +5 gold to all courier fees that cycle.
- Cooking meals: kitchen-favourite meals (see Cooking Guide) raise affinity by ~+1.5, which indirectly converts to +Treasury once a knight’s loyalty pushes them into higher-tier assignments.
Treat both as passives rather than primary income.
Late Act 3 economy
By Cycle 30 the economy shifts from gold income to political currency: faction endorsements matter more than treasury score. At this point you should:
- Spend gold freely on dragonheart items (Key Items) and Golden Key prep (Golden Key Guide).
- Stop holding cash for the sake of the Treasury meter — the meter stops mattering past Cycle 35.
- Pay attention to ending modifiers: War, Extended War, Peace, Marriage, Surrender, and Tower Destruction endings each have unique economy gates. Read Endings Guide before committing.
Common Treasury mistakes
- Hoarding 200+ gold past Cycle 25 — softlocks People questline.
- Spending everything on Knight promotions before forging equipment.
- Refusing all noble pledges — Nobles become the rebellion backbone.
- Letting Courier fees slip while you handle other petitions.

The Treasury meter is a rhythm instrument — spend one upgrade every week, accept courier fees daily, defer one noble pledge weekly, and ignore scholar endowments. You will outlast the campaign.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the safest spending rule in Sovereign Tower?
Always spend at least one annex upgrade per in-game week (5 cycles). Pure saving tanks the People faction score even when individual quests succeed.
When should I avoid Demon rewinds?
Daily Treasury recovery usually does not require a rewind. Reserve rewinds for closing secret knight windows, Dragon Knight overflow, or locked Cycle 45 endings — see [Time Rewind](/guides/time-rewind/).
Does Patch 1.0.9 change economy math?
Patch 1.0.9 fixed Round Table repair and Arron dragonheart stats but did not retune the Treasury meter. Patch 1.0.10 covered Victoria self-ambush and Yorhav chains. See [Patch Notes 1.0.10](/updates/patch-1-0-10/).
What is the fastest way to recover after Treasury drops?
Sell consumables to the merchant guild, accept every courier fee, and trigger a Grest Pirate emergency — it pays handsomely and Patch 1.0.8 added a +1 cycle grace window. See [Grest Pirates](/walkthrough/grest-pirates/).
